Do you sense the present-ness of these words? In this holy Christmas hymn we are—almost too subtly--reminded of the present-ness of Jesus. This isn’t a hymn of magic that mysteriously whisks us away to long, long ago in a land far, far away. Yes, we sing of Bethlehem and the new born king—but our refrain is not a stroll down memory lane and the 2nd chapter of Luke. No, with these words we are called into the new reality and into a new manner of worship. Come, let us adore Him. Not because we have been transported to the ancient barn and the holy manger. But because the living Christ is present—is alive—and is with us still. Come—let us adore Him! Not because we like the story of the first Christmas—Come, Let us Adore Him because he is no longer in the manger. Come let us adore Him because this innocent child grew to be the innocent lamb. Come let us adore Him because His birth changed the world--and we are still trying to figure out what that means. Come let us adore him in the manger. Come let us adore him on the cross. Come, let us adore him at the empty tomb. Come let us adore him in the peaks and valley’s of our lives.
This is what the Christmas season is about. It is the miracle of the incarnation. Not just that God choose long ago to send His Son—but that His son loves us enough to remain with us over 2000 years later. The incarnation is not over. God is still dwelling with us, in us, and for us. Come, let us adore Him—this savior who loves us enough to remain with us. That is the Christmas story—that there is a God close enough for us to adore. Come—this Advent and Christmas season. Come, join us as we adore, worship, praise, and follow this savior—born long ago who is alive. For that is our truth. Christ is Risen—He is Risen Indeed! So, Come! Let us adore Him!
