St. John's Lutheran Church is a traditional church with a contemporary flair. Being one of the first congregations founded in Grove City in 1849, we're known for our rich history and beautiful sanctuary. Once inside our doors you'll find a warm welcome and a variety of ministries relevant for today, and for all ages.
Perhaps we are best known in our community for having an active youth ministry program. At St. John's, we want our children, teens, and adults to have a working knowledge of the Bible and be involved in meaningful service projects.
St. John's is a congregation that cares. Relationships, faith, and service to others are important here. Once involved, it won't take you long to see that St. John's is a place where you can belong and make a difference!
At St. John's we want you to experience something special. We know that your first visit to any church presents some questions. Here is a quick look at our environment to help you feel comfortable.
Our Style
Saturday Traditional service is held in the Sanctuary at 6:00pm. We currently offer two identical Traditional services each Sunday at 8:15am and 11:00am in the Sanctuary. We also offer a Contemporary praise and worship service at 10:45am in the Family Life Center.
Different churches have many different styles that reflect their personality. At St. John's, we have made the following choices in the area of style:
What is the music like?
Because we offer two types of service, our music is upbeat and contemporary at the 10:45am Contemporary service, while the Traditional service offers beautiful hymns of the ages. We want the music to assist us as we express our joy, love, and gratitude to Jesus. The music allows us to both celebrate God's goodness and reflect on our lives as we draw closer to Him.
What should I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in. We want people to feel comfortable and relaxed while they worship and grow. At St. John's, you'll find people wear everything from 'Sunday's best', to business casual, to shorts and sandals. Feel free to leave the tie and high heel shoes at home.
What is your teaching style?
Our teaching style is positive and life-based. We believe the Bible can help us as we strive to deal with the stress and challenges of each day. We try to use multiple learning styles, experience, and shared learning as we journey together in faith.
Thinking about visiting a church for the first time can be overwhelming. We hope that getting some of this 'stuff' out of the way not only encourages you to join us for church, but also helps you to connect with the hope and encouragement that God has for you.
